the menu for turning network based location is hidden for some reason by samsung and the phone ships with this feature turned off most likely to save battery power. however if you are running a home screen replacement (like my fav "aHome") that menu becomes visible again and you can choose to use this service for quicker location fixes using network info (tower triangulation). there is a bug though that with every data reload of position it automatically finds a location of bellevue, wa (where tmo is headquartered) well the fix for this problem is as follows:

first go to "Manage Applications" in the settings menu and find the program called "Network Location" and select this program.

next click of clear data as well as clear cache.

finished.

this worked perfectly for me and now google maps gets a location fix quicker, and network location works in conjunction with the gps so its fast, and accurate.

there is another way to access the stock android settings for location without having a home replacement app:

first you need to press and hold send/talk button to activate voice commands. after the prompt say "open location." then press Security and Location. you will now be at the default Android menu where you can turn network location on.
